San Marcos’ girls water polo team didn’t fare as well as head coach Brian Roth had hoped on Saturday, losing a pair of games to Bonita and Los Osos.
The Royals were leading 4-1 at halftime against Bonita in their first game but ended up losing 8-4. San Marcos then dropped its second game of the day 8-6 to Los Osos. The first game was especially frustrating for the Royals, who had just lost to Bonita the week before by a single goal at the Villa Park Tournament.
“We just absolutely fell on our faces,” Roth said. “We just stopped doing what we needed to do defensively.”
Hannah Koper was the Royals’ top scorer for the day with four goals in two games. Ashley Wagner had three goals. Jenna Phreaner collected 24 saves in the cage, and added three steals against Bonita.
San Marcos (3-6) still has a pair of games before Christmas. The Royals host The Bishops School on Tuesday at 2 p.m. followed by a Wednesday morning Channel League match with Santa Barbara.
