Halie Johnson had her second 6-goal performance in three games at the Vill Park Tournament, as the Royals defeated Cathedral 12-7 on Friday.
Johnson’s six goals were supported by Hannah Koper with three, Ashley Wagner with two and Hannah Turk with one. Johnson and Koper have 13 goals each in the tournament’s first three games.
San Marcos was perfect on its man-up situations, going 5-for-5 on 6-on-5s. The Royals defense allowed one goal on four 6-on-5s from Cathedral.
“That was pretty splendid,” said Royals head coach Brian Roth.
Roth also had good things to say about Turk.
“She’s finding a way to get a goal in each game,” Roth said. “She’s really stepped up this year. The fact that she’s scoring goals in big games speaks to her growth and confidence.”
San Marcos is playing for ninth-place on Saturday out of 32 teams. The Royals start with Bonita in the morning and with a win would play in the ninth-place game later in the day.
