Kristen Gowdy led Dos Pueblos with 23 points and to victory against Agoura on Wednesday 68-61 in a Gold Division game at the Tournament of Champions.
The victory sets up a clash with crosstown rival Santa Barbara High on Friday.
Before the game head coach Jelani Hicks challenged Gowdy and her character on the court, and she stepped up big time.
“That was the real accomplishment, that she could react in such a positive way,” said Hicks.
In the fourth, Dos Pueblos scored 24 of its 68 points as Gowdy and Chiara DiMarco came alive.
Gowdy scored three shots in a row in the paint, bringing the Chargers to a 58-51 lead. Dimarco followed with a three pointer and back-to-back drives to the basket making it 65-59. Gowdy ended the game with a three pointer of her own 68-61.
At halftime the Chargers trailed 25-27. At the start of the third, Dimarco put up two three’s which allowed DP to catch up 29-33. With two free throws and a three pointer from Gowdy, the Chargers tied the game at the end of the third.
Dos Pueblos is now 9-4.
Gowdy’s 23 led the Chargers. DiMarco finished with 18 points and Jasmine Mata added 12. Jessica Escalante tallied 9 points.
Agoura’s Kylie Cunningham had 19 points and Noam Leead had 12 points.
