Fay leads Dons’ spread out scoring attack in win

Brendan Fay led three Dons in double digits on Friday, as Santa Barbara High’s boys basketball team won its second straight at the Arroyo Grande Tournament with a 63-54 defeat of Franklin.

Fay’s 14 was a team high, supported by Matt Wagonhurst’s 11 and Andy Busch’s 10. Sam Cohen added nine.

“Good team effort and we are improving every game,” said Dons assistant coach Andew Gil.

Santa Barbara used a strong first half on its way to victory. The Dons led 44-24 at halftime.

Franklin outscored the Dons in both the third and fourth quarters but had dug too deep a hole to make it all the way back.

Gil noted the strong defensive presence of Teon West as having an impact on the game.

The Dons (2-2) finish off the tournament on Saturday starting with a noon-time game against Marina Arroyo Grande High School.
