Erwin’s last-second goal saves Chargers

Emily Erwin provided a dramatic finish to Dos Pueblos’ girls soccer match at Thousand Oaks on Friday.

The Chargers trailed by two goals late in the second half before two scores, the last from Erwin on the final play of the game, salvaged a 2-2 draw for the Chargers.

Down 2-0, Maria Solis scored in the 75th minute on a pass from Rosalba Barbosa to make things interesting.

Five minutes later, the Chargers were awarded a free kick on the left side just outside the 18-yard box. Erwin took the kick and converted to bring the Chargers even on their last opportunity.

“(Coach Guerrero) would like us to do better and improve because we can improve, but we didn’t give up,” said Chargers captain Jamie Benedetto. “Our team did well not to give up.”

Dos Pueblos, the No. 9 ranked team in CIF-ss Division II, holds a season record of 3-1-2. Its next game is Tuesday at San Luis Obispo.
