Santa Barbara High scored first in Thursday’s non-league matchup with Santa Ynez, but couldn’t add to the total and ended up with a 1-1 draw with the Pirates.

Dons captain Alberto Hernandez evades a Santa Ynez tackle on Thursday at Peabody Stadium.

“It’s our third game in a row where we’ve outshot our opponent by a substanstial margin and we’re not walking away with a win,” said Dons head coach Todd Heil.

“It’s frustrating for the boys because we’re doing the right things. We’re just not getting that end result.”

The Dons (3-2-3) outshot the Pirates 9-5 on Thursday. In their last game, the Dons held a 16-2 advantage in shots but lost 2-1 to St. Francis.

“I thought we had our chances and so did Santa Barbara,” said Santa Ynez head coach Alex Uribe.

Kenny Pina produced the equalizer for Santa Ynez in the second half. The tie brings Santa Ynez’s season record to 6-0-2.

Alec Larson scored his third goal of the season for the Dons, who play next at the South Torrance Tournament beginning on Tuesday.
