Clovis West puts Cardinals through the wringer

Leo Schneider goes up for a jump shot on Thursday.

All-tournament selection Charlie Thompson had another strong game at this week’s Santa Barbara Holiday Classic, topping of Clovis West’s tournament with a 68-46 victory over Bishop Diego in the third-place game.

Thompson’s 22 was his second-largest scoring output of the tournament. His 27 on Tuesday was the tournament high, matched by Ocean View’s Conor Clifford on Wednesday.

After a competitive first quarter, the Golden Hawks dominated the second period, taking off on a 22-7 run to grab hold of a 40-22 halftime lead.

The Cardinals did better in the third and shaved two points off Clovis’ lead by the beginning of the final period. Clovis turned it on again from there, finishing the tournament with three wins and a loss to champion Ocean View.
