Eighteen steals and a stifling defense took Dos Pueblos’ girls water polo team to a 16-3 victory over Ventura on Thursday in a game that saw DP’s defense allow only a single goal in the first three periods.
A trio of Chargers – Kodi Hill, Shannon Cleary, Laurel Kistler – recorded four steals each.
“I was expecting more of a shootout but our defense played really well today,” said Dos Pueblos head coach Chris Parrish.
After giving up a goal to Ventura in the first quarter, Dos Pueblos’ defense held the Cougars scoreless in the second and third quarters and into the final period.
Hill also posted a team-high four goals on the offensive end of the pool, which was matched by Jamie Neushul. Shannon Cleary added three goals to the mix.
Dos Pueblos (3-2, 2-0 Channel League) plays two non-league matches before Christmas. The Chargers host Edison in an 11 a.m. game on Saturday, followed by a clash with The Bishops School on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
