Chargers warm up to take third at Cats and Hounds tourney

Dos Pueblos went 2-1 on the final day of the Cats and Hounds boys soccer tournament and finished third place in the Silver Division.

The Chargers started the day playing on a frozen pitch in 29-degree weather in Paso Robles. They ended up scorching an injury-depleted Paso Robles team 8-0.

Seven players scored and Omar Montalvo had three assists.Freshman Julio Rubio scored two goals and Oscar Escamillia had a goal and assist. The other goal scorers were Michael Sazani, Julio Rubio, Jorge Lopez, Lalo Arce and Armando Orozco.

Dos Pueblos fell 2-0 to Pioneer Valley.

Coach Matt York praised the play of Arce and freshman defender Tim Heiduk.

The Chargers rebounded and beat Lompoc 3-1. They rallied from a 1-0 deficit with three goals in the second half.
 
The first was off a free kick from 28 yards by Montalvo that curved beautifully into the far post seven minutes into the second half.

Eight minutes later, Nathan Garcia got his first career goal as he got behind the defense and drove the ball past the goalkeeper to the far post.

Sazani struck a laser of a shot off a bouncing ball from the middle circle to close out the scoring in the 43rd minute.
