Chargers force Royals off the plank

Dos Pueblos’ girls water polo team hadn’t played in awhile and came back with a resounding yes on Tuesday.

The Chargers defeated San Marcos 14-6 in their first game in 10 days to even their season record at 2-2.

San Marcos exchanged goals with Dos Pueblos for the first few minutes before the Chargers strung together several goals. It was 3-2 in the frst quarter but Dos Pueblos led 9-3 at halftime.

Jamie Neushul recorded a game-high four goals to go with five steals. Kodi Hill was tops in the steals department with six. Hill, Shannon Cleary, Laurel Kistler, and Kara Horwald each scored twice for DP.

Ashley Wagner and Hannah Turk both scored twice and added and assist to lead the Royals. Halie Johnson and Natalie Chilton also scored. Royals head coach Brian Roth thought his goalie Jenna Phreaner deserved a lot of credit for her 10 saves and five steals.

San Marcos plays twice on Saturday on the road. The morning game is against Bonita and in the afternoon Los Osos.

The Chargers host Edison on Saturday in what will be a matchup of the No. 5 and No. 8 teams in CIF-ss Division 1. It is DP’s last game before the Newport Harbor Holiday Cup.
