Channel Islands edges Chargers in dual meet

Esteban Flores and Yaskin Solano gave Dos Pueblos’ wrestling team six points each on Tuesday with pins, but Channel Islands still outdid the Chargers in a 39-36 dual meet at Dos Pueblos.

Flores and Solano both won their matches in the second period. DP earned 12 more points on a pair of forfeits and benefited from three others winning their matches.

Four wrestlers from Channel Islands won by pin to give the Raiders the edge.

“They came after us hard and got some big pins,” said Chargers head coach Anthony Califano.

Despite the team loss, Califano thought it a good experience to compete in an early-season dual meet at home.

“It’s sort of a freebie because it’s not a league match,” Califano said. “It’s tough to lose at home but it’s not going to count against us too much.”

The Chargers travel on Saturday for a bracketed tournament.
