Bernardi gets hat-trick for Bishop Diego

Senior striker Elisa Bernardi put three goals in the back of the net to lead the Bishop Diego girls soccer team to a 4-1 win over the Dunn School.

“We had constant pressure in their defensive third,” head coach Brent Gonsalves said about his team’s excellent performance.

The Cardinals were able to maintain possession in threatening positions from the start of the game, and broke through in the 21st minute as Gabby Koepenick scored off a pass from Erin Linehan.

Just three minutes later, Bernardi began to get into her goal-scoring groove by putting a cross from Annalise Morando into the back of the net..

Bishop Diego took a 2-0 lead into the half, but Bernardi, a senior forward, extended the lead to three in 54th minute.

Dunn showed signs of life by scoring on a well-struck free kick from distance in the 63rd minute.

In the 72nd minute, Bernardi got her hat-trick and sealed a victory for team by scoring on a cross from Natalie Durtche.

Bishop Diego (2-0) continues its season tomorrow at Thacher.
