TCU snaps UCSB’s seven-match winning streak

SAN DIEGO – The UC Santa Barbara women’s volleyball team ended its season with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 defeat to TCU on Saturday night to end the Turkey Time Tournament, yet still finishes the season with a terrific chance to get into the NCAA Tournament.

The Gauchos finished the regular season with a 19-12 overall record and saw their seven-match winning streak snapped. TCU improves to 25-7 overall.

UCSB hit just .094 for the match and had nearly as many errors (20) as kills (30) on the night.

Leah Sully led the way with nine kills while Chelsey Lowe led the team with 14 digs on the night.

TCU hit .303 on the evening despite not having a single player in double digits with kills. However the Horned Frogs dug 48 balls and had 10.0 blocks as a team to take over defensively.

Kara Sherrard finished with six kills and 10 digs for the Gauchos while Stacey Schmidt and Jenna Wilson each had five kills apiece. Hanna Nielson finished with 26 assists.

UCSB will find out its tournament fate on Sunday when the NCAA selection committee announces the 64-team field. UCSB finished with an 11-5 record in conference play, second place in the Big West, and could be making its 28th appearance in the NCAA’s.
