The Santa Barbara Aquatics Club’s girls 14-under team took second at the 2011 USA Water Polo Turbo Cup in Bloomington, Indiana, where they fell to SoCal Water Polo Club 6-5 in a nail-biter of a final.
A silver medal equals Santa Barbara’s best performance at water polo’s Fall Classic.
After falling behind 5-1 in the first half, Santa Barbara fought way back, scoring four unanswered goals to tie the score in the third.
Jessie Brummet, Paige Hauschild, and Toni Shakelford led the fast-paced onslaught. The SBAC then went up by one in the fourth period and led with three minutes remaining while maintaining a hard outside press that stifled the SoCal shooters.
Late in the fourth quarter SoCal scored on a penalty shot and hung on for the victory.
