Red-hot Chargers seeded third for CIF 1-AA playoffs

Dos Pueblos earned a No. 3 seed and a first-round bye for the CIF-SS Division 1-AA girls volleyball playoffs.

The pairings were released Saturday.

The Chargers (25-5) appear to be peaking at the right time of the year. Last weekend, they won the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions and then crushed Buena in three straight to clinch the outright Channel League title.

They did draw a tough match for the second-round, playing either Redondo Union or Long Beach Poly at home on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Santa Barbara, the Channel League runner-up, drew a home match for the first round on Tuesday. The Dons (15-10) play Royal, the No. 3 team from the Marmonte League.

Edison is the No. 1 seed in Division 1-AA.

Bishop Diego earned a playoff berth in Division 2-AA after finishing third in the Tri-Valley League. The Cardinals (9-6) on Tuesday travel to North Torrance (18-10), the runner-up to top-seeded South Torrance in the Pioneer League.

Condor League champion Laguna Blanca received a first-round bye in Division 4-AA. The Owls (8-3) will host either St. Paul or Liberty on Thursday.

Cate (5-6) is home for a 4-AA first-round match against Don Lugo on Tuesday. The winner draws top-seeded St. Margaret’s.

Providence Hall earned an at-large berth in the Division 5-A playoffs.  The Lions (11-7) will play Coast Union in Cambria on Tuesday.

Santa Ynez and Cabrillo will play in the 3-AA Division playoffs. The Pirates, champions of the Los Padres League, play host to Norwalk. The Conquistadores, LPL No. 4, travel to Western in Anaheim.
