Maiwald is WAC Player of the Week

Former SBCC player Meghan Maiwald was named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 17-23.

A senior goalkeeper at San Jose State, Maiwald made 13 saves in a pair of wins and ended the week with a 137-minute scoreless streak. She helped shut out Louisiana Tech 2-0 on Senior Day.

She set a single-season record with six shutouts last year and now has 10 in her career (1 combined) to tie for second on the all-time list.

Maiwald was a first-team All-WSC player at SBCC in 2008-09. She was the No. 2 goalie in the state in 2009 (0.35 goals-against avg.) and holds Vaquero school records for shutouts in a season (13 in 2008) and career (24).

San Jose State (6-11-1) finished third in the WAC with a 4-2-1 mark and will open play in the conference tournament on Thursday against Idaho.
