Four players with double-digit points lead San Marcos to victory

The San Marcos boys basketball team coasted to a 65-47 home victory over Arroyo Grande as several players posted impressive statistics.

Kevin Hempy, a 6’5″ junior forward, scored 13 points on 6-7 shooting and had four rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.

Senior leaders Thayer White and Chad Ridenour also had doube-digit scoring nights. White had 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks while Ridenour 12 points and four steals.

Bryce Ridenour, Chad’s little brother, added 11 points on 4-5 shooting and also grabbed four rebounds. Point guard Greg Zajic had five assists and no turnovers.

The game was close after the first quarter, but the Royals tightened up on defense and only gave up 11 points throughout the second and third quarters.

Head coach Jarrod Bradley attributed the team’s fine defensive performance to Chad Ridenour, who has seven steals in San Marcos’ first two games.

“Chad is our best perimeter defender and he was just spectacular,” Bradley said.

On offense, the Royals shared the ball and played efficiently, and finished the game with 18 assists compared to only 12 turnovers.

“We’ve got a bunch of guys who can handle the ball and they’re very unselfish,” Bradley said.

San Marcos (2-0) will continue pool play tomorrow at the Bulldog Classic in Burbank against the host team, Burbank.
