Bishop, Carp, DP learn CIF playoff opponents

CIF playoff matchups were announced on Sunday for football, with three area schools learning their first-round opponents on Friday night. All games start at 7:30 unless announced differently by the host school.

Bishop Diego (9-1) and Carpinteria (7-3) will be at home in the first round, while Dos Pueblos (3-7) will travel. Santa Barbara (5-5), which was hoping for an at-large berth, will not get to play another game this season.

The Frontier-League champion Cardinals, fresh off a rivalry win over Carpinteria, will host Brentwood, an at-large team from the Alpha League. The Cardinals were the No. 5-ranked team in the East Valley Division in the last set of rankings.

Carpinteria also gets a home game in the first round. The Warriors, who were ranked No. 4 in the final Northwest Division polls, host Templeton from the Los Padres League. LPL champion Lompoc is the top-seed in the division, which features the most Santa Barbara County schools than any other bracket.

Templeton and Carpinteria have never met on the football field.

Dos Pueblos, playing in the Western Division, drew a tough matchup in its first round game. The Chargers must travel to Arroyo Grande, which won the Pac-7 league and holds a 9-1 record.

Also in the Western Division, undefeated Channel League champion Ventura drew Dominguez, an at-large team from the San Gabriel Valley League.

Dominguez, St. Francis, Culver City, and San Luis Obispo received at-large bids over Santa Barbara in the Western Division.
