Becker helps SBCC beat ASU

Eric Becker scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds on Saturday as SBCC rallied to beat American Sports University 72-62 at the San Bernardino Tournament for its first men‘s basketball win of the season.

Anthony Williams had 11 points and six rebounds and Cameron Nelson scored 10 points in seven minutes for the Vaqueros (1-3).
After falling behind 18-6, Santa Barbara used a 15-0 run to take a 37-32 halftime lead.

“They were pressing us early and we made a bunch of turnovers,” said coach Morris Hodges. “We put in some subs and got the lead back at half.”

Michael Hansen scored eight points in the first half and Kenneth Edwards finished with six rebounds and five assists. Jalani Davis also had six rebounds, helping the Vaqueros to a 41-32 advantage on the boards.

SBCC led by as many as 17 in the second half (58-41). The lead shrunk to five with five seconds left (67-62) before Williams and Alex DiManno combined to make five straight free throws.

The Vaqueros will battle Pasadena in the consolation final on Sunday at 2 p.m.
