Westmont drops season finale in 2 OTs

The regular season came to an end on a sour note for the Westmont Men’s Soccer team. The Warriors (3-11-1, 2-6-1 GSAC) lost the Golden State Athletic Conference finale 2-1 to Point Loma Nazarene (4-11-1, 2-7) in double-overtime.

Despite the loss, Westmont advances to the GSAC Tournament as the number eight seed. The Warriors will travel to Fresno to take on regular season champion Fresno Pacific (11-5, 7-2). The game will be played at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3.

The Warrior scored first on a stunning run by Nana Akyen in the sixtieth minute. The sophomore midfielder passed the ball to Daniel Johnsen who passed it back to him as he ran down the middle of the field. Akyen the beat the keeper with a move to his right and placed the ball in an empty net. The goal was the third of the season for Akyen.

However, the Sea Lions would produce the equalizer on a header by Paul Fuchs, forcing the game into overtime. Tyler Hall scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of the second overtime period.
