Vaqueros rebound in 2nd half, squeeze past Citrus

SBCC scored twice in a four-minute span of the second half to rally past Citrus 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in a WSC men’s soccer game at Glendora.

Anthony Smoller got the game-winner in the 69th minute when the goalie couldn’t handle his shot in the box. Duran Stanley picked up the assist. Four minutes earlier, Ricardo Vazquez tied it at 1-1 on a close-range shot with Smoller getting the assist.

The Vaqueros, ranked No. 4 in Southern Cal and 10th in the state, won their sixth in a row despite missing seven players, due to injury or illness. SBCC (9-1-3) completed the first round of WSC play with a 6-1-0 record.

The Owls (3-8-3, 1-5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute and later missed a penalty kick that hit the goalpost.

“I was pleased to see us come back for an important win,” said coach John Sisterson. “We threw everything forward and came out with three points.”
