Tigers toil with Royals

San Marcos went down to San Luis Obispo 11-7 on Friday but Royals coach Alex Sheldon liked what he saw on the courts in the non-league matchup.

“San Luis Obispo was a very good team. I was really proud of how hard we competed today,” Sheldon said. “This was the best all around match we have played this season.”

Several of the sets went down to the wire with San Marcos coming out on the short end. The team of Stephanie Manson-Hing and Alexis Flores battled back twice to force tie breakers only to drop their hard-fought sets.

Caitlin Mannix rallied twice in sets where she fell behind by a break or more early on.

Mannix and Manson-Hing/Flores won their other set.

Parisa Fallahi and Amber Rowley went 3-0 in doubles for San Marcos (4-4, 2-2), which returns to Channel League play on Tuesday against Dos Pueblos. The Tigers improve to 8-1.
