McClure leads Charger girls to DPI sweepstakes title

The Dos Pueblos girls won the sweepstakes title and the Charger freshman girls put on a dominating performance Friday at the Dos Pueblos Invitational cross country race at Shoreline Park.

Elaine McClure led a first through fifth finish for the DP freshman, finishing in 19:44, the third fastest time of the day.

MEET RESULTS

“Not bad for girl who moved up seven places in our league meet the previous day to finish sixth and help the DP girls to a second place finish in Channel League,” DP coach Leslie Wiggins Roth said.

Long Beach Poly took the boys sweepstakes race.

Miguel Bautista of Poly set a new course record with a time of 15:30. The previous mark was 15:53

“He now holds both the freshman and sophomore records,” said Roth.

A new senior record was created by La Sierra’s Edgar Cobain (15:50). Jazeel Garcia from Long Beach Poly got a top five fastest time in 16:05, and so did Anna Barcelo from Nogales in 19:17.
