Very little went right for the Santa Barbara High girls golf team before its match with Ventura, but the Dons stayed on course and edged out Ventura 256-269.
Coming off a heartbreaking loss to Dos Pueblos, the team headed into the wind and light rain at par-36 Montecito Country Club without its top golfer, Isabella Doub who was sick with the flu.
Sarlisa Ortega stepped up and was the medalist with a score of 42 to help her team end up on the right side of the close match.
Santa Barbara (9-4 overall, 3-1 Channel League) will be back at Montecito Country Club on Tuesday to face Simi Valley.
