Balanced offense, strong defense carries Dons past Royals

An excellent defensive effort from the entire Santa Barbara High boys water polo team, as well as five different players having multiple goals gave the Dons a 14-4 road victory over San Marcos.

“I thought our defense was really good,” Santa Barbara head coach Mark Walsh said.  “Every guy who played had a steal.”

Preston Schlagel, Nick Johnson, Skyler Matthews, Tyler Benko, and Connor McManigal all had two goals each for Santa Barbara.

Ben Battles and Kevyan Golizadeh had two goals apiece for San Marcos (8-5 overall, 0-3 league).  The Royals continue their season at Buena on Thursday.

On Thursday, Santa Barbara (13-5 overall, 2-0 league) will travel to play Dos Pueblos, which is also undefeated in Channel League play.
