Aggies score two late goals to beat UCSB

UC Davis scored two goals in the final eight minutes to post a 2-0 victory over UCSB in a Big West women’s soccer match on Sunday in Davis

UCSB fell to 6-11-2 overall and  1-6-0 in the Big West while UC Davis improved to 11-4-1 and, 4-1-1 in the Big West.

With the match scoreless, Ashley Edwards headed in a cross from Kiele Argente at the 82:30 mark, giving Davis a 1-0 lead.  The Aggies added an insurance goal in the 89th minute when Rachel Kahn took a feed from Argente and blasted a shot from six-yards out that deflected off of a defender and into the goal.

UCSB had its problems offensively. The Gauchos attempted 12 shots but only four were on frame.

Alyssa Benjamin, a defender playing on the forward line, had a team-high three shots, one of which was on goal.  Dyanne Anderson and Erin Ortegaeach had a a pair of shots for the Gauchos.

UCSB returns home for its final game of the season on Friday, Oct. 28 against Cal Poly. The game will mark the final appearance in a UCSB uniform for seniors Alexa Stringer, Kathleen Matthew, Brooke Salyer, Nicole Romanowski, Alyssa Benjamin and Alyssa Oldham.
