Warriors suffer fifth straight defeat

Westmont remained winless on the season in men’s soccer, dropping a 2-1 decision against McKendree on Saturday at Thorrington Field.

Marcos Lopez headed in a corner kick from Nana Akyen in the 53rd minute to tie the score at 1-1.

But the Warriors (0-5) gave up the game-winner in the 82nd minute on a shot from eight yards by Kavel Smith.

Despite the loss, Westmont coach Dave Wolf liked the effort from his team.

“It was more of a real soccer game,” said Wolf. “It feels like it has been a while since we have played in a real game. That is positive. They really fought hard today for the entire game. By the end, I think there were some guys who were suffering physically from putting out a big effort.”

McKendree (4-0) created several scoring chances and forced Westmont goalkeeper Andrew Singer to make seven saves.

The Warriors, meanwhile, had only two shots on goal.
