Villa medals in first match back to help Dos Pueblos to victory

Vanesa Villa continued her championship form into this season, matching Rio Mesa’s Breanne Torralba for the day’s low score in her season debut while helping the Dos Pueblos girls golf team to a 245-256 victory at Sterling Hills Golf Club.

Villa, last year’s Channel league champ, and Torralba both shot a 43.  The Chargers (2-1) split their first two matches without Villa.

“The course was not particularly difficult,” Dos Pueblos co-coach Dan Choi said.  “But the ground was hard-packed and it was really hot.”

For the Chargers, Hannah Nolan shot the next best score with a 46, Bekah Beveridge followed closely with a 47, Leah Dunn scored a 50, and Rachel Teitelbaum a 59.

For Rio Mesa, Sam Blemker followed Torralba with a 50, then came Blake Sjoquist who tallied a 53, then Grace Stephenson scored 53, and Kennedy Boldrin scored a 58.

Dos Pueblos returns to action on Monday at the Pirate Invitational in Santa Ynez.
