Stratman picks Columbia

Dos Pueblos tennis star Lauren Stratman made a verbal commitment to attend Columbia University of the Ivy League, she announced on Tuesday before the Chargers’ match against San Marcos.

Stratman, who is trying to become the first player to win four straight Channel League singles titles since Santa Barbara’s Amelia White (1988-92), visited Brown and Columbia recently.

“Columbia was a way better fit for me,” said Stratman. “The connections are huge.”

Stratman said Columbia coach Ilene Weintraub and the players on the tennis team helped her make the decision to join the Lions.

“I love the coach, I love the girls on the team,” said Stratman.
