San Marcos takes it to SLO in water polo opener

Keyvan Golizadeh and Shane Hauschild each scored five goals to power the San Marcos boys water polo team to a 15-6 win over San Luis Obispo in the season opener on Thursday.

“Keyvan and Shane got our season off to a great start, but I was also really impressed with James Sweeney, who had 6 assists and Spencer Kemp who had 1 goal, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 4 drawn ejections,” coach Jeff Ashton said.

The Royals opened up a 5-1 lead in the first period and padded it to 9-2 by halftime.

“I thought overall we did a great job of playing tough defense and being aggressive on our counter attacks,” Ashton said. “We still have a lot of things to work on but it’s a good start to the new season.”
