Royals stop Warriors in three

Jaimie Mayner and Kristen Berlo matched each other for the game-high in digs on Thursday, leading the Royals past Carpinteria 25-10, 25-21, 25-16 in the Warriors’ gym.

Mayner and Berlo each recorded nine kills while Iris Campbell had four.

Amy Davis led Carpinteria in that department with six. Luna Pate was tops for the Warriors in digs with 10 and Allie Sundara tallied five assists and two aces.

Mayner added four aces and eight digs to her statline. Marley Miller posted a game-high 11 digs for the Royals.

“We came out really strong and were able to get in a good rhythm,” said Royals head coach Erica Downing.

Katie Kim “had a good match both offensively and defensively,” according to Downing.

Both teams compete in tournaments this weekend. San Marcos heads to San Luis Obispo for matches on Friday and Saturday while the Warriors play in the Laguna Blanca Tournament on Saturday.
