Random Notes: Uribe sharp in his QB debut at Lindenwood

Former Santa Barbara High and SBCC football standout John Uribe led Lindenwood University to a huge victory in his debut at quarterback last Saturday. Trailing 20-19, Uribe guided the Lions on a last-minute drive to a game-winning field goal on the road at  Northern Colorado.

Uribe completed 5-of-5 passes for 46 yards in the final minute, and James Neal kicked a 21-yard field goal as time expired to give Lindenwood a 22-20 victory — the biggest regular-season victory in program history.

For the game, Uribe threw for 294 yards, completing 27 of 36 passes with one touchdown and one interception.

Christian Ramirez is tearing it up for the Concordia University men’s soccer team in Irvine.

The UCSB transfer has eight goals in four games. He set a school record with five goals and two assists in a 10-0 rout of William Jessup last week.

Ramirez scored one goal in 24 matches over two season with the Gauchos.

Concordia plays in the same NAIA conference as Westmont.

Carly Wopat posted her first collegiate double-double in Stanford’s win over Duke last Saturday in the Stanford Invitational. The sophomore from Dos Pueblos had 14 kills on 33 attempts with no errors, 12 digs and six blocks. She was named to the all-tournament team.

Kristen Dealy reached a milestone in her senior season at Notre Dame. The Santa Barbara High grad eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark at the Stanford Invitational. She is 30 kills away from joining the 1,000-kill, 1,000-dig club for the Irish. Only seven players in program history have accomplished the feat.

DP grad Sammie Brown, the Irish sophomore setter, is 13 assists from 1,000 in her young career.

Sanford Spivey has earned the praises of his soccer coach at Boston University.

The recent Santa Barbara High graduate has been starting on defense for the Terriers.

Neil Roberts. who has been at the helm for 27 years, told the Boston University student paper that “Spivey was a pleasant surprise. We knew he was very good and a tough kid, and he has done a good job back there.”

With his Olympic gold medal teammate Todd Rogers recovering from knee surgery, Phil Dalhausser is hooking up with his old partner Nick Lucena for a tournament in their old home state of Florida.

They’re playing in the National Volleyball League event in Miami this weekend.

Former UCSB star Brooke Niles and partner Lauren Fendrick are also entered. They’re coming off winning the U.S. Open Championship in Cincinnati.
