The Dos Pueblos boys water polo team lost to San Clemente in their first game of the day, then defeated Foothill to take 15th place at the South Coast Tournament in Orange County.
The Chargers lost 11-10 in overtime to San Clemente, despite five goals from Blake Parrish and 10 saves from Philip Bates.
“He kept us in the game, otherwise we would have got slaughtered,” head coach Chris Parrish said about his goalie.
The Chargers played excellent team defense in the first half, but were unable to win one-on-one match-ups in the second half and San Clemente drew the game into overtime and was eventually victorious.
In the second match, Blake Parrish led the team again with four goals and Dos Pueblos won 9-8.
Sjors Van Alphen fouled out in the third quarter after scoring two goals, but Grant Schroeder contributed three goals, and the offensive production from him and Parrish was just enough for the win.
Bates was magnificent between the goalposts again with nine saves.
The Chargers (4-9 overall, 1-0 league) will take a week off before returning to Channel League play against Ventura on October 4.
