Carpinteria ranked No. 5 in CIF Northwest Division

Carpinteria moved up two spots to No. 5 in the CIF Northwest Division football poll after its impressive 22-8 season-opening win at Morro Bay last Friday.

Area teams dominate the division, with five teams among the top six. Lompoc, the defending division champ, tops the poll after wins over Arroyo Grande and Pioneer Valley (in overtime). Santa Ynez, which beat Bishop Diego 23-22 in a last-second thriller, remains at No. 3 while Cabrillo moves up to fourth and Templeton is sixth.

CIF FOOTBALL POLLS

Bishop Diego dropped to eighth in the CIF East Valley Division football poll after its last-second  loss at Santa Ynez.

The Cardinals were ranked fourth in the preseason poll. Sierra Canyon remained No. 1 after routing Bishop Union 42-7. Bishop Union is No. 3 in the Northeast Division.

In the Western Division, Ventura became the first Channel League team to crack the top 10 at the 10th spot.  Arroyo Grande is third and St. Joseph of Santa Maria fifth.
