Bishop takes out Laguna Blanca to win Carpinteria Tournament

The Bishop Diego girls volleyball team defeated Laguna Blanca 26-24 in the final of the Carpinteria Tournament on Saturday.

“It’s a big step forward for the Bishop Diego program,” assistant Coach John Sener said.

According to the tournament format, each of the 10 teams played each other in a one-set match, and the top four teams at the end of pool play advanced into a two-round playoff.

Bishop Diego went 7-2 in pool play and defeated Glendale 25-18 in the semifinal before winning the championship match.

Nicole Tetherow was the tournament MVP after recording 19 assists, four digs, and two aces in the final. Diana Sleep and Makenna Hogue also earned All-Tournament honors.

Bishop Diego hopes to take the momentum from their victory into their next match at Oaks Christian on Tuesday.

OTHER LOCAL TEAMS

Cate went 2-7 on the day with victories over Azusa and Cabrillo.  Freshman libero Summer Matthews had an excellent day making some spectacular saves.
