Woods crack top 10 in Reef and Run swims

Spencer Wood led a trio of 12 year olds as top 10 finishers in the 1-kilometer ocean swim at Tuesday’s Reef and Run Series at East Beach.

Wood came in third place behind local triathletes Johannes Walcher (16:20) and J. Ritterbeck (18:07) in a time of 18:13. Pre-teen Adam Fuller finished fourth in 18:33 and Ashley Cocklin came in sixth — and was the first female finisher — in 19:42.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Wood’s uncle, Neil, also earned a top-10 finish in the 1-mile swim, placing sixth in 24:08. The winner was Cameron Whiting of Renton, Wash., in 20:36. Local teen Walker Bell, 14, came in second place in 20:55.

Michael Remorenko won the 5k run in 22:43.

In the swim-run duathlon, Walcher (39:41) and Ritterback (40:36) went 1-2, with Mikael Sneward (47:55) taking third. Angie Roberts was the top woman in 55:49.
