Warriors drop 3-1 decision to Grand Canyon

Facing another nationally ranked opponent, the Westmont men’s soccer team fell to Grand Canyon University 3-1 in the final match at the Azusa Pacific Cougar Classic on Saturday.

Grand Canyon, ranked 11th in NCAA Division 2, scored in the 18th minute and delivered the game-winner in the 51st on rebound by Miguel Benavides.

Westmont sophomore midfielder Darnall Davis made the score 2-1 in the 72nd minute with an open-net one-timer from the top of the box.

Junior forward Saeed Robinson scored the first goal in the 18th minute. He capitalized on a turnover at the top of the box, sliding the ball inside the right post.

??Senior midfielder Miguel Benavides (Salem, OR, Sprague) scored the game-winner in the 51st minute on a rebound off of the crossbar, tucking the ball into the left corner of the net.

??Warriors sophomore midfielder Darnall Davis made the score 2-1 in the 72nd minute with an open-net one-timer from the top of the box.

??Robinson scored the game’s final goal one minute later, finding the left corner from the 6-yard box. It was his third goal of the exhibition season.??The 5-foot-9 Portmore, Jamaica native was named All-Region V and NSCAA All-West Region Second Team in 2009 and 2010.
