Perez ignites Vaquero attack in the heat of Visalia

Rodrigo Perez scored two first-half goals on a hot Tuesday in Visalia, leading the SBCC men’s soccer team to a 5-1 season-opening win over Sequoias. The temperature was in the mid-90s and well over 100 on the new turf field.

Jordan Tabor opened the scoring in the 11th minute on an assist from Anthony Rodriguez and Perez found the net three minutes later after taking a pass from Nikolai Littleton.

Perez, a sophomore midfielder from Dos Pueblos High, scored again in the 32nd minute after stealing the ball. Kim Karlsson, a freshman from Sweden, made it 4-0 in the 35th minute on an assist from countryman Jorge Grueso Gomez.

Sequoias spoiled the shutout in the 55th minute. Efrain Olvera completed the scoring in the 74th minute on a 30-yard shot that was set up by Santiago Perez.

The Vaqueros will make their home debut on Tuesday against Taft at 7 p.m.
