Mitchell hires former UCLA player as an assistant

Carlene Mitchell completed her first women’s basketball coaching staff at UCSB by announcing the hiring of assistant Natalie Jarrett.

Jarrett, a four-year letterwinner at UCLA, most recently served as the head women’s basketball coach at Chadwick School in Palos Verdes as well as the Amateur Athletic Union team Cal Sparks. She joins fellow assistants Courtney Locke and Heather Zurich as part of Mitchell’s staff.

“From the moment Natalie Jarrett stepped into the Intercollegiate Athletics building I knew she was the perfect fit in completing my staff,” Mitchell said. “Her versatility of coaching at a rigorous academic school and being a part of an elite AAU program gives her instant credibility throughout the state.”

Jarrett has been the head coach at Chadwick since 2005, turning the program into one of the toughest teams in its conference. While playing forward at UCLA she was an integral piece of the Bruins team for four seasons.

Jarrett has also worked previously as a sports academy director, a basketball counselor and served as a basketball coach at various levels before joining the Gaucho staff.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Coach Mitchell’s staff,” Jarrett said. “Although I have been on the West Coast for the past decade, Coach Mitchell’s achievements and her coaching pedigree are not foreign to anyone out here. I am looking forward to getting on the floor with this team and continuing the Gauchos’ winning tradition.”
