Marsh advances to semifinals in SCGA Match Play

Kevin Marsh advanced to the semifinals of the SCGA Match Play Championships with a 2-up victory over Todd Baek on Tuesday at Sandpiper Golf Course.

Marsh, a Dos Pueblos High graduate who played Sandpiper countless times as a youth, is a two-time winner of the SCGA Amateur.  The Henderson, Nev., resident will play Loyola Marymount University graduate Greg Moss on Wednesday morning. Moss won his Tuesday match over Justin Warthen, 5 and 3.

In the other semifinal, Xander Schauffele will play Anton Arboleda. Schauffele, the 2011 state high school champion from Scripps Ranch, beat Kevin Dougherty of Oklahoma State 4 and 3 in their quarterfinal match. Arboleda, of UCLA, held off 2006 California State Champion Jordan Nasser, 1 up.

In earlier action, Santa Barbara’s George Downing upset top-seeded Scott Travers of Trabuco Hills 1-up in the first round and was eliminated by Schauffele in the second round, 2 and 1. John Pate lost in the first round to Baek 2 and 1.
