Johnson, U.S. take fifth at World University Games

Orlando Johnson and the USA men’s basketball team beat Germany 86-83 on Monday to finish in fifth place at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China.

Johnson, who is entering his senior season at UCSB, scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds and had four steals in the seventh tournament win for the Americans. Their only loss was by two points against Lithuiana in the quarterfinals, costing them a shot at a medal.

Against Germany, the U.S. was led by Trevor Mbakwe of Minnesota. He scored 21 points and had eight rebounds.

Trailing 41-40 at halftime, the U.S. outscored Germany 28-12 in the paint and outboarded the Germans 19-8 in the second half to pull out the win.
