East Beach VC looking for new players

The East Beach Volleyball Club is looking to expand in its second season of operation.

“We would like to cover the spectrum this season,” said club director and head coach Dillan Bennett. “I think it would be in the club’s best interest to have a 14s and/or 15s team, a 16s team, and a 17s team. This way we can continue to work with our older, established guys while building for the future.”

In its inaugural year, the East Beach 16s team, composed of local high school talent from Dos Pueblos, Santa Barbara, and San Marcos high schools, ended its season ranked 23rd overall in the Southern California Volleyball Association standings after starting in 56th place.

At the Junior Boys Classic in June, the team peaked at the right time and finished in 21st place out of 80 teams from all over the U.S.

The 16s team had several of the up-and-coming talent in the Santa Barbara area, including Dos Pueblos players Jackson Wopat, Niko Plesons, Drew Kenyon and Josh Lemons, to name a few; Austin Hudgens from San Marcos and Connor Dougherty from Santa Barbara High.

“Our guys worked hard all season and it showed at the Boys Classic. We started out the fall season with a rag-tag group of boys who knew the basics of volleyball, but by the end of the season their growth was evident,” said Bennett

East Beach will hold tryouts in mid-September for their Fall Traveling Teams. For more information regarding time and dates, contact Bennett at [email protected]
