Chargers go 8-0, win Queen of Court tourney title

Dos Pueblos completed an undefeated weekend of matches to win the Gold Division title at the Foothill Queen of the Court preseason girls volleyball tournament at the American Sports Center in Anaheim.

The Chargers went 8-0 in matches and lost only one set in the two-day tournament. They beat Laguna Beach in the gold final on Sunday, 25-19, 25-22.

“Our chemistry was out of this world,” DP coach Todd Garrett said of his team’s performance. “The girls are really bonding.”

The Chargers showed their mettle in a comeback win over Corona del Mar in the semfinals, 25-20, 25-19.

“The chemistry on the court can not be any better,” said Garrett.

Dos Pueblos won its morning pool, defeating Murrieta Valley, 25-19, 25-17, and Rim of the World, 27-25, 25-15.

The Chargers opened the playoffs with a tough 31-29, 26-24 victory over Ayala.

“Our tenacity to come from behind and pull through in the tight matches was a great surprise,” said Garrett

This is the second preseason tourney title for DP. It won the Oxnard Invitational two weeks ago.

“We certainly don’t want to peak now, but this is truly a strong beginning,” Garrett said. “This weekend exposed a lot of our weaknesses, so we still have a lot to work on. I could not be more proud of the girls.”

The Chargers frosh/soph team also took first place at the Queen of the Court tournament and the JV squad were Flight One winners
