Jeremy Vaa pulled away from the pack and won the 1-mile swim at Tuesday evening’s Reef and Run Series at East Beach.
Vaa, a teacher at San Marcos High, finished in 18 minutes, 56 seconds. Jessica Broderick of Boulder, Colo., was the top woman and second overall in 19:32, Rebecca Toseland was third overall in 19:42 and Stewart Reid finished fourth in 20:02.
In the 1k swim, Ethan Veitch won in 18:49 and Jon Clark finished second in 19:22. Whitney Bruice was the top woman and third overall in 20:08.
Veitch also won the duathlon in 43:00 and Clark finished second in 44:14. Lauren Anderson was third in 48:22.
In the 5k, Jonathan Cross was the first across the finish line in 23:12.
