Spieler-Rottman continue winning ways on the sand

Local high school standouts Katie Spieler and Dani Rottman, fresh off winning a USA Junior National indoor title with the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club, continued their winning ways on the beach.

Spieler of Dos Pueblos and Rottman of Santa Barbara won the Girls 18-under division title at the first California Beach Volleyball Association Youth Tournament of the summer at East Beach on Tuesday. They defeated Danielle Carlson of Santa Ynez and Michaela Christaansen, a freshman at Pepperdine from Tucson, Ariz.

This was the first of five youth tournaments scheduled at East Beach on Tuesdays.

The third-place team in the Girls 18s was Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks) and Hannah Schuett (Westlake).

Goleta’s Emma Craine and Grace Halleck won the Girls 16s division, beating Ashley DeWolfe and Jenna White of Camarillo. Bailey Roach-Lucie Simmons of Santa Barbara and Makenzie Neilan (Oxnard) and Delaney Shaw (Ventura)  finished in third.

In the girls 14s division, the Bay Area team of Clarisse Chan (Foster City) and Chanti Holroyd (Mountain View) defeated the local team of Alessandra Tacconelli-Makayla Moore. The third-place finishers were Leila Teymourtash (Redwood City)-Claire Aguirre (San Carlos) and Lauren Suh-Emily Robertson of Santa Barbara.

Liana Tacconelli and Brynna Hodosy won the Girls 12s title, defeating the Bay Area team of Emma Munch (Los Altos) and Janine Francisco (San Bruno). The teams of Amy Trephan-Jennifer Trephan (Thousand Oaks) and Oxnard’s Shea McKeown-Devon Glinski took third.

In boys action, Nate Rogers, the son of professional beach volleyball player and Olympic gold medalist Todd Rogers, combined with Marcus Ray of Solvang to win the 12-Under title.

In the 14s Division, Kai Thordarson (Camarillo) and Matt Yoshimoto (Oxnard) took top honors, defeating Chris Aichinger-Joe Ray of Solvang. Tanner Roche-Davis Gillett (Huntington Beach) took third.

The Thousand Oaks team of Jonah Seif-Zachary Hougardy defeated Santa Barbara’s Joe Rafferty-Tristan Fauntleroy for the Boys 16s title. The third-place finishers were Quinn-Denkensdon-Jonah Iwanga and Quinlan Dougherty-Will Howard.

Evan Yoshimoto and Owen Yoshimoto upended Snata Barbara’s Holden Ploch and Alex Biedul for the Boys 18s titles. The third-place finishers were Jacob Delson (Thousand Oaks)-Bradley Sakaida (Oak Park) and Eric Ensing-Daniel Salovich of Valencia.
