Montecito Volleyball Club is off and running

Whether it be improving your skills, court awareness or fitness, the Montecito Volleyball Club aims to cover all facets of the game for local players.

The club is in its first year of operation, and it’s received the assistance of Nabil Mardini from the successful Santa Monica Beach Club to help it develop and grow.

“Santa Monica is known for having strong coaching and an excellent, organized management structure, and we are excited to use Nabil’s expertise to bring these things and more to Montecito,” said club director Erika Lilley.

“We view this as an exciting opportunity to further the growth and development of the region’s athletes,” she added. “Simply stated, this union of bright volleyball minds and hearts will form a powerful foundation for the volleyball community in the Santa Barbara area, ensuring our local players and coaches develop the skills necessary to achieve their athletic dreams and goals.”

The club is conducting summer clinics on July 13, 14 and 18, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at East Beach. Lilley and Craig Donen are running the clinics.

There also is a summer league for boys and girls in 5th through 9th grades.

The tryout and team formation session is scheduled for July 19, with the program lasting six weeks.
