Kling slams door on DP, sparks GVSLL 11U Stars to District 63 title

Goleta Valley South Under-11 All-Stars show off District 63 championship banner.

A two-out scoring eruption in the second inning provided the spark that carried the Goleta Valley South Little League Under-11 All-Stars to the championship of the District 63 Tournament.

Sam Drew started things off with a bunt single and Evan Kling capped the six-run explosion with a grand slam as Goleta Valley South beat Dos Pueblos 8-1 for the district title and a berth in the sectional tournament.

After Drew beat the throw to first on his bunt, he came home for the first run of the game on a booming double to center by Kevin Barker.

Drew Darke was hit by a pitch and Dylan Shugart reached base on an error, allowing Barker to score for a 2-0 lead. Colter Nisbet was walked to load the bases, bringing up Kling.

Kling, on a 0-1 pitch, cracked a towering shot over the center-field fence for the grand slam.

Kling also contributed on the mound. He struck out two and gave up three hits in just over two innings of work. Nisbet finished the game for Goleta Valley South.

Dos Pueblos scored its run in the fifth when Jed Donovan came home on a fielder’s choice.
