Dylan Shugart broke up a no-hitter in the fourth inning and Colter Nisbet followed with a two-run homer, as Goleta Valley South edged Dos Pueblos 2-1 in a well-pitched Little League District 63 11-under All-Star Tournament game Friday.
Will Goodwin of Dos Pueblos and Trey Tank of Goleta Valley were locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel for three innings. Nisbet relieved Tank in the fourth and struck out the side.
After Goleta Valley took the lead in the fourth, DP staged a rally in the sixth inning. Nick Baker and Davey Demeter got hits and Goodwin followed with a RBI hit.
But Goleta Valley was able to hang on and is now one win away from winning the district championship for the second straight year. Its next game is Monday, July 11.
I’m pretty sure Shugart’s single was GVSLL’s second hit, but important nonetheless. Great, gutty win for Goleta Valley.
