Zandona honored as Channel League MVP

Danny Zandona did it all for the Santa Barbara High baseball team.

He went 10-1 with a 1.29 earned-run average as a pitcher, had a fielding percentage of .921 as a third baseman and batted .421.

Zandona was recognized for his outstanding all-around play by being named the Most Valuable Player of the Channel League. The senior helped the Dons to the league title, a 23-7 record and a spot in the CIF semifinal.

Two of Zandona’s senior teammates were named to the all-league first team: first baseman Pepe Gil and center fielder/pitcher Collin Dewell.

Dos Pueblos had three players on the first team: sophomore pitcher Gabe Speier, senior shortstop Steven Reveles and senior third baseman Mike Spiritosanto.

San Marcos junior first baseman/pitcher Jimmy Brakka also was voted to the first team.

Local players on the second team are Riley Moore of San Marcos; Joe Huthsing, Kyle Richardson, Ben York and Porfiro Avila of Dos Pueblos; Spencer Fraker and Kees t’Sas of Santa Barbara.
