Williams adds Madry to basketball coaching staff

UCSB men’s basketball coach Bob Williams returned to a familiar source to complete his coaching staff for the 2011-12 season, adding Ryan Madry who spent the 2010-11 season as the Director of Basketball Operations at Cal State Fullerton.

Madry replaces Jono Metzger-Jones, who left the Gauchos’ staff in May to become the lead assistant at the University of Montana. Metzger-Jones also came to UCSB after spending one season as the Director of Operations at Fullerton. He was part of the Gaucho staff from 2007-11.

“Ryan has a nice blend of experience for a young coach,” Williams said. “He is very good on the floor and with the technical side of things, working with video and a computer. He also has a good presence and is a great fit for our program.”

Before his one year stint as the Director of Operations for Bob Burton at Fullerton, Madry spent two years (2008-10) as the Video Coordinator at the University of San Francisco. In 2007-08, he was the co-head coach at West Valley College, where he also played for two seasons, and in 2006-07 he assisted former UCSB assistant coach Danny Yoshikawa at West Valley. Madry’s first coaching experience came in 2005-06 at his alma mater, the University of West Georgia, where he was a graduate assistant.

“I am excited to be part of the UCSB basketball program,” Madry said. “This is a great opportunity to be part of an outstanding program and hopefully, I can help make it even better.”
